How we rank
Here’s how Compas orders the directory, and why no one can pay to move up.
Sorting the directory
You choose the order with the sort menu: Editors’ order, Newest or A–Z.
Editors’ order
Within each type, a short hand-picked list comes first, followed by the most popular listings by public counts: app store ratings, podcast ratings, YouTube subscribers, followers and community members. Next come the listings most recommended by learners in public forums, articles and lists. The rest follow in A–Z order.
Welsh apps first
Apps made for learning Welsh come before general tools such as flashcard apps, which are counted across every language.
Browsing Everything
Under Everything, the types take turns, so one type doesn’t fill the top of the list.
Impartiality and Tiwtor
No one pays to be listed or to move up. Tiwtor, made by the same team, is never in a hand-picked list or an editor’s pick. It goes through the same popularity rule as every other app and carries an “Our app” label.
Where counts come from
Counts are public and gathered without logging in to anything, and we keep where each came from.
